The Boeing 767-300 is the stretched version of the 767-200, it features a 6,42 m stretch consisting of fuselage plugs forward (3,07 m) and behind (3,35 m) the wing center section. The flightdeck and systems were carried directly over from the 767-200.

Boeing 767-300F changes include strengthened undercarriage and wing structure, a cargo handling system, no cabin windows and a main deck freight door.

Boeing launched the 747-400 in October 1985 and the first development aircraft first flew on April 29 1988. US certification was awarded in January 1989. 

The 747-400 externally resembles the -300, but it is a significantly improved aircraft. Changes include a new, two crew digital flight deck replaced the analog systems of the 747 classic with digital avionics, with six large CRT displays, reducing the number of lights, gauges and switches from 971 to 365. Programmable displays and simpler cockpit procedures also reduced the workload in the cockpit.  

An increased span wing with winglets (the -400 was the first airliner to introduce winglets), new engines, recon toured wing/fuselage fairing, a new interior, lower basic but increased max takeoff weights, and greater range.

The 747-400 is currently the best-selling member of the 747 family.

Two Large Cargo Freighters will be needed to support initial 787 production. Two 747-400s that will be converted to the new configuration were purchased by Boeing in 2004. Boeing continues looking for a third airplane that will enter service later. Certification of the first Large Cargo Freighter will occur in 2006, with the airplane returning to service in 2007 to support final assembly of the first 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing developed the 747 both as a passenger and as an air-freighter (cargo model). Pan American ordered 23 airliners of the new type 747 and two freight versions 747F in April 1966. A real “prototype” of the Boeing 747 has never been built, so the first flight took place using a production aircraft on February 9th, 1969. After distribution of the FAA type rating on December 30, 1969, Pan Am used the “jumbo jet” for the first time on January 22, 1970 on the route from New York to London. The Boeing 747 brought really new dimensions into air traffic and airport handling, in connection with the much larger number of aircraft passengers.

The Airbus A310 twin engine wide-bodied airliners have been built since 1981. The A310 has a shorter fuselage than the A300 aircraft but the same 5.64m fuselage diameter. The A310 is a 200 seated aircraft with low operating costs. The large fuselage diameter allows the aircraft to carry industry standard LD3 cargo containers side by side under floor.
