Launched on receipt of United Air Lines order for 30 on July 14, 1978; construction of basic 220-passenger 767-200 began July 6, 1979. The Boeing 767-200 was developed in tandem with the narrowbody 757 with which it shares a common two crew EFIS flightdeck (with six color CRT displays) and many systems. The two types (757 and 767) can be flown with only one type rating.

  • Boeing 767-200: standard version.
  • Boeing 767-200ER: Extended-Range version, features higher weights and an additional wing center section fuel tank.
  • Boeing 767-200F: Freighter version.
  • Boeing E-767: AWACS platform for the Japan Self Defence Force.
  • Boeing 767-200 prototype is used as an airborne laboratory for strategic defence programmes, by the US Army.
  • Boeing 767-200ER Tanker (KC-767) for the Italian Air Force.

Boeing 767-200 Prototype

The US Army operated the Boeing 767-200 prototype with a dorsal cupola. It was converted as the Airborne Optical Adjunct Laboratory with a unique long-wavelength infra-red sensor. The extra keel area forward is compensated for by a pair of enormous ventral fins.
